Demetreis Thornton – Bass Trombone Jakob Hartz – Piano Aidan Berg – Double Bass Matias Soto – Drums Hailing from El Paso, apart of a class of young musicians ready to make their mark on ATX, comes Demetreis Thornton. He has cemented his unique place as an improvisational jazz bass trombonist, going far beyond the instrument’s commonplace role as “trombone 4”. Drawing upon sounds reminiscent of JJ Johnson, Curtis Fuller, Steve Davis, Bennie Green, and Slide Hampton, he has performed alongside national and local luminaries including Andre Hayward, Brad Goode, Quincy Davis, Gary Smulyan, Nat Reeves, Graham Reynolds, and Brad Leali. Mentored by national and local talent Andre Hayward and Paul Deemer since moving to Austin in 2023, Demetreis is currently pursuing his undergraduate degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. In 3 short years he has hit the ground running and can be seen composing, arranging, educating, and playing with groups of all shapes and sizes in the Central Texas area. In big and small groups alike, Demetreis upholds the music above all else, and is a familiar sight (and sound!) in all of Austin’s adored music venues.
