Join us for a live taping and listening-room concert for the Drew Johnson Quartet! Drew Johnson - vibraphone Tim Brey - piano Chad Wesselkamper - bass Gavin Moolchan - drums Sam Knight - drums Drew Johnson is a vibraphonist from East Tennessee who has called his home Philadelphia, Oakland, and Houston. He received his masters degree in Jazz Studies at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA where he studied with Tony Miceli, Warren Wolf, John Swana, and the late great Larry McKenna. Drew's musical interest lie in a range of styles including New Orleans music, gospel, bop, hip hop, and soul. Coming out of the Milt Jackson conception of the instrument, he takes the vibraphone into the modern era with language spanning over a century, including today. Drew will be joined by Philadelphian Timothy Brey on piano, who has performed and recorded with some of the greatest names in jazz, and Houstonian Chad Wesselkamper on bass, an active and central member of the Houston music community. Living now in Houston, a city known for begetting some of the greatest drummers to ever do it, he could not choose between one and is playing with the critically acclaimed Gavin Moolchan and Sam Knight, who will be splitting the drum chair. He will be performing original compositions from Drew’s upcoming album, A Love Letter, to be recorded in studio the following day. Please Note: This is a live-taping, so we'll be enforcing a whisper-policy! Cold bottles of still and sparkling water will be available for purchase, but this event is BYOB.
