Carter Arrington - Guitar Jerry Espinoza - Saxophone Sam Pankey - Bass Brannen Temple - Drums Carter Arrington’s lifetime of professional live performance and academic training has made him one of the most sought-after guitarists in Austin. Growing up in Roanoke, Virginia, Carter discovered the guitar at age twelve, and his passion for music solidified during a trip to Berklee’s summer guitar sessions in Boston. Later, in Atlanta, he attended the Atlanta Institute of Music while still in high school and eventually taught classes there. Moving to Austin in 2003 to attend The University of Texas, he immersed himself in the city’s vibrant live music scene, balancing study, instruction, and performance. In 2006, Carter earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance from UT Austin, receiving 3 Downbeat Student Music Awards and performing at prestigious festivals like Montreux and North Sea Jazz. He continued teaching both privately and through UT’s ALMA program while expanding his performance opportunities in and beyond Austin. Carter’s extensive work includes collaborations with artists such as The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Progger, Peter Rowan, Kirk Covington, and Eric Johnson, along with commercial clients like The Sundance Channel and Texas A&M. Carter’s career highlights include performing on Progger’s third album “Scattering” in 2016, performing in “Motown! The Musical,” and headlining the Psycho Las Vegas festival with Arthur Brown. In 2017, he toured the US with The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, recorded on Progger’s fourth album “Scattering”, and worked on various other projects. Relocating to the UK in 2018, Carter explored the London music scene and continued recording and performing internationally. In 2020, he created the “Tactical Improv” course for Truefire, teaching students worldwide during the Covid-19 pandemic. Carter’s recent work includes co-writing the album “Gamelan Road” with Kirk Covington in 2021, teaching for the Roth Academy, and recording for Ben Croft’s album “Far and Distant Things”. In 2022, he worked as a session guitarist for the Masterlink Sessions in the UK, collaborating with some of England’s top vocalists and musicians. In 2023, he tracked “The Carter Exchange” album, played sold-out shows at Ronnie Scott’s, and began teaching at Waterbear College of Music in Brighton. In May 2023, Carter returned to Texas, accepting a position as Jazz Guitar Lecturer at Texas State University.
