Double Bass - Billy Satterwhite Trumpet - Curtis Calderon Voice - Jessica Healey Piano - Ross Margitza Drums - Mike Gordon About Billy Satterwhite: Billy Satterwhite is regarded as one of the top call double bassists for Jazz in Central Texas. Born and Raised in Houston, he found a love for the Double Bass late in his teenage years, and quickly dove head first into studying Jazz and Classical music. He studied Jazz and Improvisation at Texas State University and The University of Michigan, where he studied with legendary Detroit bassist Robert Hurst and the late great pianist Geri Allen. He arrived in Austin in 2012, establishing his roots in the local music scene. From 2012-2017 he played bass all over Texas full time with the Kris Kimura Quartet. As of the last several years he’s worked regularly with artists and groups such as the Ephraim Owens Experience, The NOW Jazz Orchestra, Freddie Mendoza, Jessica Healey, Elias Haslanger, Tommy Howard, The Copa Kings, and Michael Mordecai’s Monday night Jam session. In addition to performing Billy is a passionate teacher and one of the few bass teachers trained in the Suzuki Method. He has helped students from ages 5 to 50+ find joy in playing the bass, and currently is teaching and helping with administration at the newly opened Music Academy of Austin at Mueller. When not playing music, Billy is likely to be spending time with his beautiful daughter and wife on some fun outdoor adventure, or cheering on Austin FC with his family and friends in Los Verdes. About Jessica Healey: Jessica Healey is a full-time singer-songwriter and jazz vocalist in Austin, Texas. Originally from Fort Worth, she joined the local live music scene just over a year ago and has quickly built a name for herself in Austin and beyond. Jess performs as lead vocalist and bandleader for her straight-ahead jazz ensemble, the Jessica Healey Quintet. She has been featured in ensembles led by renowned musicians such as Gerry Gibbs, Mike Sailors, and Kevin Lovejoy. Jess is also the songwriter, bandleader, guitarist, and vocalist of her indie-pop band, which showcased at the 2024 South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival. Drawing from rock, folk, soul, and jazz influences, she’s been compared to artists like Madison Cunningham, Fiona Apple, and Corinne Bailey Rae. Known for her brutally honest lyrics and unique sound, Jess has earned showcases with both SoFar Sounds and the Austin Music Love Concert Series. About Curtis Calderon: Curtis Calderon was born and raised in San Antonio, but has traversed the country in touring and brief stints living in Las Vegas, NV and Hollywood, CA. Influenced by his early tours with big bands, his trumpet sound commands attention and his vocal style welcomes all listeners with his phrasing and vulnerability. Curtis started touring right out of high school and did tours with big bands such as the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra. Starting in 2001, he began touring with The Four Freshmen, singing the 2nd tenor voice and playing trumpet. After touring for 15 years with The Freshmen, he came home to raise a family. He now resides in San Antonio, TX and is one of the top call trumpeters in the state of Texas. Curtis has been featured on nearly a dozen Four Freshmen recordings, numerous PBS specials with the Four Freshmen and past groups he’s toured with. He is a featured Schilke Trumpet Artist. Please Note: This is a live-taping, so we'll be enforcing a whisper-policy! Cold bottles of still and sparkling water will be available for purchase, but this event is BYOB.
