Join us for a live taping and listening-room concert for the Julien Knowles Quintet feat. Devin Daniels! Julien Knowles – Trumpet Devin Daniels – Saxophone Jermaine Paul – Bass Jongkuk Kim – Drums Classmates of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, Devin Daniels and Julien Knowles forged a deep musical bond during their two-year fellowship under the mentorship of legends like Billy Childs, Walter Smith III, and Herbie Hancock. Since graduating in 2023, the two have built individually vibrant yet closely intertwined careers that continue to reflect their shared foundation. An Inglewood native, Daniels has balanced versatility and individuality in performances with Gerald Clayton, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, and John Beasley—and most notably toured the U.S. with Herbie Hancock in 2024 alongside Terence Blanchard, Chris Potter, and Lionel Loueke. Knowles, now a fixture in Los Angeles’ creative music scene, has toured with Louis Cole and appeared with Gerald Clayton, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Billy Mohler, and Sasha Berliner. Together, the pair have led bands featuring top LA artists such as Steve Lehman, Justin Brown, and Nicole McCabe, performing across major festivals including Angel City Jazz and Camp FLOG GNAW. Their 2024 releases—Daniels’ LesGo! and Knowles’ As Many, as One—were both highlighted in NPR’s “Essential Jazz Discoveries of 2024.” Now, the duo unite on Now Then, a co-led project that bridges the jazz tradition with forward-looking innovation. Featuring reinterpretations of the American songbook and original compositions, the album showcases the next generation of creative jazz, with Daniels and Knowles joined by bassist Jermaine Paul and drummer JK Kim. Please Note: This is a live-taping, so we'll be enforcing a whisper-policy! Cold bottles of still and sparkling water will be available for purchase, but this event is BYOB.
