Join us for a live taping and listening-room concert for The Jazz Purveyor & Monks Jazz Present: Lawrence Fields Supersonic Trio | Halloween Special! Lawrence Fields – Piano & Keyboards Curtis McPhatter Jr. – Drums Reuben Cainer – Electric Bass “I love playing music with Lawrence Fields! He’s full of ideas, plays with a beautiful sound and feeling and can swing! He’s always inspired – and that’s where the magic is...” — Joe Lovano "★★★★ ... an expectant future for the rising star." — Downbeat Magazine From convention to invention, risking all in challenge of the known. A cunning musician from St. Louis with unique background, Lawrence Fields, who forewent a career in computer programming to pursue musical dreams in New York, has earned a spot at the forefront of young jazz pianists and keyboardists. His approach has been described as “an exquisite balance of tradition and innovation” — and for several years Downbeat Magazine has featured him prominently in their “Rising Stars” critics poll. Fields tours the world as a key member of today's forward-thinking, critically-acclaimed groups, including Joe Lovano and Dave Douglas' "Sound Prints" and the Grammy-nominated Chief Adjuah/Christian Scott group. The Wall Street Journal praised Fields’ “elegant, probing” solos with Sound Prints, while The New York Times noted that he is “integral to the band’s plunging, changeable style.” After performing and/or recording with a diverse collection of artists that includes Nicholas Payton, Branford and Delfeayo Marsalis, Takuya Kuroda, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Jeff "Tain" Watts, Fields' new music combines a musical grasp of both past and present — with a fluid, spontaneous approach to interplay. His acoustic debut album, “To the Surface”, was released in early 2024 to critical acclaim, and has been featured by publications like Stereogum, Germany’s Rondo and Jazzthetik Magazines, and Japan’s Jazz Life magazine. Lawrence Fields Supersonic Trio is an explorative electric project from New York City, showcasing original compositions from the groove lab for a rare and one-time special live performance denouement. This is their debut in Austin. The Jazz Purveyor is an artist agency and event producer, bringing diverse programming of high art jazz ensembles to the listening capital of Texas.
